DUTCH POLICE PAY HOME VISITS TO IMMIGRATION CRITICS
A 28-year-old Dutch man named Mark Jongeneel claims the police paid a visit to his office and told him: “You tweet too much. We have orders to ask you to watch your tone. Your tweets may seem seditious.”
Among Jongeneel’s “seditious” tweets include the following horrifying statements:
The College of #Sliedrecht comes with a proposal to take 250 refugees over the next two years. What a bad idea!….Should we let this happen?!
Last October Dutch police reportedly knocked on the doors of twenty anti-immigration critics in the town of Leeuwarden. Similar incidents have allegedly been occurring all over The Netherlands. A national police spokesman claimed that his force had been instructed to comb Twitter and Facebook for comments that go “too far.”
CATCALLING WOMEN IN WHEELCHAIRS
A 26-year-old wheelchair-bound woman laments that she “has never been street harassed…because in our ableist society, a disabled body is necessarily a desexualized one.” She claims that she felt out of place at feminist gatherings where all the ambulatory women were griping about being catcalled and leered at:
Why is my experience so invisible to the feminist community?…I longed for one stray whistle to be aimed in my direction. Just once, I wanted a man to leer at me across a room, obviously imagining all the things he could do to my body. I fantasized about men following me across campus, calling, “Hey, sexy! Why don”t you come over here for a minute, baby?”
Clearly we have a lot more work to do, and justice will never see the light of day until disabled women are leered at publicly, at which point they can file false rape accusations against their tormentors.
