CHRISTIE PUNISHES ISRAEL BOYCOTTS
Speaking of fat people, New Jersey Governor and Donald Trump’s toy puppet Chris Christie recently signed “bipartisan-backed legislation that will punish groups that endorse a boycott of Israel in protest of its violations of Palestinian human rights.” The law would create an effective blacklist of institutions supporting the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement. It would also legally obligate the State Investment Council to divest from such companies.
This is clearly McCarthyism with a yarmulke.
A SWAN SONG FOR “DIXIE” AT OLE MISS
Anyone with a basic sense of human decency who isn’t fundamentally tone-deaf will readily acknowledge that “Dixie” is a catchier and more inspirational anthem than “The Star-Spangled Banner.”
Sadly, the marching band for the Ole Miss Rebels football team will never play “Dixie” again. This comes on the heels of a 1997 ban on waving Confederate flags at Ole Miss games and a 2003 retirement of mascot Colonel Reb, presumably because he looked too much like a Southern gentleman.
According to Ole Miss athletic director Ross Bjork:
Because the Pride of the South is such a large part of our overall experience and tradition, the Athletics Department asked them to create a new and modern pregame show that does not include Dixie and is more inclusive for all fans.
In case you didn’t know, the marching band for Ole Miss is still called Pride of the South. We predict that within ten years it will be forced to rename itself Shame of the South.
DON”T USE THE WORD “MAN,” MAN
Because the most pressing problem facing the American educational system is imaginary sexism rather than falling test scores compared to other countries, the cultural czars at Princeton University recently issued a new policy pushing for “gender-inclusive” language. Instead of the word “man,” you should now say “human beings, individuals, or people.” Instead of “man made,” say “artificial, handmade, or manufactured.” Progress will only be made until the very notion of men is eliminated, as well as the very last man.
THE RIGHT TO BE A BIGOT
A Liberal Democrat senator in Australia is shrewdly using leftist hate-speech codes to make a point about the absurdity of leftist hate-speech codes. David Leyonhjelm of New South Wales has long protested the very existence of section 18C of Australia’s Racial Discrimination Act, which outlaws any speech that may “offend, insult, humiliate or intimidate another person or a group of people” due to their of race or ethnicity.
In an article critical of the fact that Leyonhjelm opposes such totalitarian speech restraints, a correspondent named Mark Kenny called him an angry white male. In response, Leyonhjelm has filed a complaint with the Human Rights Commission, alleging that Kenny has violated the very legal code he claims to support.
“The comments are reasonably likely in all the circumstances to offend or insult some white males,” says Leyonhjelm. He said he wasn’t personally offended by Kenny’s comments because “I”m only insulted or offended by people I respect.”
Australia’s Attorney-General George Brandis also supports the repeal of 18C, asserting that people have a “right to be a bigot.”
Indeed, the right to hate others without fear of reprisal may be the most precious right of all.
