Similar to the Washington Redskins name dilemma, few people have the time or energy to care about offensive language. A bunch of unread publications are boycotting the name so writers can feel like they are “making a difference” as the average Joe just shakes his head at the non-controversy. It’s all par for the course for a political ideology that is wont to break into tears over the slightest of slights.
Meanwhile, actual tragedies are barely paid any notice. Half a million individuals killed in the invasion of Iraq? We need more food stamps! China’s Dagong Global Credit Rating downgrades Uncle Sam’s creditworthiness? Who cares, as long as we are allowed to marry ourselves? A teenage girl is tormented to the point of attempted suicide? What’s really important is allowing a proclaimed transgender student to use whatever bathroom she, he, or it wishes in high school”despite no biological change. These are the targets of progressive focus. Is it any surprise that real crimes go overlooked for the latest flavor in victimology?
For ratcheting up the offended level on the overly sensitive American left, Mr. Tea-Tard gets my respect. His effort was not nearly as good as the stenographer who screamed, “[A] House divided cannot stand”you are all sons of the Devil” on the House floor as the degenerates voted to raise the debt ceiling and spend the country into the poorhouse. But stirring a hive of indignation makes for good humor, no matter how tasteless. This is the damage political correctness has wrought on the world.
