Except that’s an almost petulantly reductive delineation of “political.” Look, I”m a Canadian citizen who isn”t a member of any party either. Would any sentient being call me “politically unbiased,” or indifferent to the outcome of the U.S. election?
Despite the reconstituted anti-Snopes backlash, examples of that site’s willingness to debunk anti-Trump goofiness aren”t hard to find. I”m just saying that the “facts” Snopes.com and their defenders offer up as proof of their neutrality boil down to “some pieces of government paper we”ve got over here somewhere.”
In other words: “Because we say so.”
So pardon my skepticism. Especially now that the same side that’s been fictionalizing the official narrative for over a century”Scopes, Sacco and Vanzetti, Alger Hiss, the Rosenbergs, DDT, JFK, the Cleveland river fire that inspired the first Earth Day, Reagan & AIDS, Vietnam, global warming, campus rape”has seemingly developed a late-onset passion for “facts.”
These same folks mock concepts like “God” and “biology” and even “truth””unless the “truth” is oracled and arbitrated by a pair of self-anointed strangers somewhere off the PCH with (again ironically) a shaky internet connection.
Oh, and that definitive “debunking” of the Bataclan tortures? Well, besides the fact that Islamic terrorists have an established sexual-mutilation MO, spanning Munich to Mumbai, that Snopes article was written by…Kim LaCapria.
Anyway, I was complaining about all this to a fellow right-winger, who replied:
I remember a music forum where some poor woman said, “Am I the only one here who listens to Rush?” and went to bed, only to wake up in the morning to find that she”d been virtually tarred-and-feathered, drawn and quartered, hung (the old-fashioned way, without the drop) until nearly dead, and then burned over a slow fire before she had a chance to mention that she was referring to Geddy Lee and the boys.
Not, that is, Limbaugh.
