So, despite the fervent assurances of true believers in the comments on my posts and Justin’s posts that the Sinclair Lewis quotation was part of a brilliant strategic plan designed to grab free headlines, open the eyes of the American people to the dangers of “Christianism,” and “get props from the Left,” Congressman Paul told Jan Mickelson of WHO Radio in Des Moines that he was caught off guard, and his response was “the first thought that flashed through my mind.”
There’s a lesson here somewhere . . .
The entire interview is well worth listening to, and you can find the audio here. Make sure to listen to the segment after the discussion of the Huckabee ad, where Congressman Paul gives a very good, cogent summary of Christian just-war theory. That’s the candidate that so many of us small-government Christians support.
For a more lighthearted view of this whole kerfuffle, check out this post by my friend and colleague Aaron Wolf at ChroniclesMagazine.org. Make sure to read all the way to the end. You’ll be glad you did.
(Thanks to Sean Scallon and Ravi Kuppusamy for calling my attention to the interview.)
