Return of the Blackshirts

April 28, 2018

Which brings me full circle. Fascism is here, and the only thing that’s missing is Benito. Personally—and I witnessed this as a child—the Italian uniforms were un peu trop. I particularly didn’t like the black undershirt without a collar, preferring instead the Wehrmacht peaked collar with the iron cross hanging in the middle. There will never be a more chic officer’s uniform than the German one. No wonder uniforms today (except that of the United States Marines), which follow the American model, make their wearers look like rubbish collectors.

So there you have it, dear readers. Fascism is back in fashion. The crowds are gathering, the parades are on, and Benito is looking down (or most likely up) and blessing us. Madeleine Albright and the bien-pensants told us so.
