Harvey Weinstein and “Jewy Perviness”

Experts. Oy vey, do I have experts! Social media is nothing if not filled with experts, and nothing brings them out of the woodwork quicker than some large-scale disaster. Two weeks ago, it was the Las Vegas shooting, a man-made catastrophe about which many open questions remain. Wait, did someone say open questions? Bring on the experts! Experts on guns, experts on bullet wounds, experts on mufflers, bipods, and bump stocks. I am not an expert on any of those things, so I listen and try to learn. But then came the Las Vegas experts—the ones who claim to know everything about the town, the hotels, the culture, the lifestyle. Now my ears perk up, because for pretty much my entire life—since childhood, in fact—Vegas has been my second home. I love the town and I know it quite well. And it didn’t take me long to realize that these conspiracy-theorizing “experts” had never set foot in Vegas, let alone one of its hotels. The nonsense they spewed was, quite frankly, painful to witness.

“Who checks into a Vegas suite with ten bags?” “Why would a hotel allow a high roller to check in with ten bags?” “How could Stephen Paddock have hauled ten bags up to the 32nd floor?” “What kind of room has two windows?” Yes, there is such a thing as a stupid question. Anyone who is a Vegas regular knows that checking in with multiple bags is commonplace, bellhops have fancy contraptions called “luggage carts,” and many suites have two bedrooms, each with its own window or windows.

This is what happens when people try to be experts on matters about which they know nothing. You get breathtaking displays of stupidity.

And now the scare-quote experts have come out to opine on the Harvey Weinstein debacle. People who have never worked in Hollywood, people who have never set foot on a film set or in a movie studio (and no, riding the Incredible Hulk roller coaster at Universal Orlando doesn’t count) now seem to know everything there is to know about this town. Pedophile sex rings! Actresses are just high-priced prostitutes! Blowjobs are the town currency!

Such experts some of you are.

“It turns out there are no actresses. There are only glorified prostitutes,” wrote “Styx Einzig” on Medium.com. “No actors, no actresses; only pagan acolytes and glorified prostitutes serving morsels of nubile flesh to their insatiable false god. That’s all Hollywood will ever be. Now wake up.”

Sorry, Styx, but I think I’ll hit snooze alarm.

“The fact is, most of the time, actresses don’t have to sleep with a guy to get cast.”

I emailed Mr. Einzig to ask about his experience working in the entertainment industry. He seemed almost proud to say he had none. That’s pretty ballsy. If I had all the free time in the world, I’d write a travel guide called The Sights and Sounds of Naples, purely in the hope that one day someone would ask me, “Where’s the best nightlife in Naples?” and I could reply, “Fuck if I know—I’ve never been there.”

Up until 2013, Hollywood had always been my day job (because believe it or not, Holocaust revisionism pays poorly). I was never a big player in Tinseltown; it was just steady work for three decades. I’ve worked with the studios and the networks, A-list casting directors like Deb Aquila, entertainment law firms like Greenberg Glusker, and I’ve hooked up billionaire dilettantes like Mark Cuban and Terry Semel with directors looking to fund their next project. I know this town pretty well, so maybe my word carries a little more weight than “Styx Einzig.”

No, every actress is not a whore. Hollywood has a structure; there is a “standard” way actors get cast, and the business respects those norms more often than it flaunts them. A casting director like April Webster has “made” far more careers than someone like Harvey Weinstein. The young lady who lives with me, my 22-year-old “Youthful Ward,” recently landed a role in an upcoming Warner Bros. “tentpole” blockbuster. The film’s first AD handled the casting, wardrobe fitting, and shoot scheduling. There were no blowjobs, no naked massages. To be clear, the sleazy stuff does sometimes happen, and every attractive actress, including those who’ve bypassed the casting couch, will have stories of being hit on. But that’s life. Let’s not allow disdain for Hollywood to turn us into SJWs who believe that being asked out equals rape.

The fact is, most of the time, actresses don’t have to sleep with a guy to get cast.

Now, don’t take that as a defense of Hollywood. This is a truly terrible place filled with ambition, vanity, greed, jealousy, backbiting, and bullying. It’s a horrible town, just not horrible in the way some of you think. No, there are no “Satanic pedophile rings.” The biz has pedophiles just as it has rapists, but it also has liars (like convicted fraudster Michael Egan) who make up stories about pedophiles and rapists. And Satanism? Directors only dabble in pentagram and devil-goat imagery because they know it cheeses off conservatives.

Is the business predatory? Absolutely, because it trades in beauty. Horny (often unattractive) men in power on one side, beautiful actresses with a different type of power on the other. But most people in Hollywood play the game skillfully. Typically, when there are hookups, the males do it in a way that never involves force or the threat of being fired, and the actresses use their attractiveness coyly, never descending into outright sluttiness (“I’ll blow you for the role, mister director!”). Both sides get to keep their dignity. The man doesn’t feel like he employed compulsion, and the woman doesn’t feel like she prostituted herself.

Harvey Weinstein failed to play the game with skill. That was his first sin.

His second? He made the one mistake this town doesn’t forgive: He had a dry spell. He stopped being an earner. Weinstein was known for manipulating actors into accepting smaller paychecks in exchange for promises of Oscar gold. That strategy worked only as long as Weinstein could guarantee those coveted statuettes. He was a man who’d stoop to any level to ensure an Oscar win. Back in 2004, it was well-known among Hollywood Republicans that Weinstein was secretly trying to whip Christian conservatives into a furious frenzy over Million Dollar Baby’s “pro-assisted-suicide” message, because he saw that film as the biggest Oscar threat to his own The Aviator. Weinstein hated Christian rightists, but he had no problem using them to try to rob another film of an award. He always did everything he could to create negative publicity for competing films.

You make a lot of enemies doing that kind of thing. And the minute you become weak, the minute you go two or three awards seasons in a row without a win, the people you’ve crossed smell blood and pounce (think of chimps revolting against a despised alpha). At the beginning of the current scandal, only a few chimps, I mean actors, spoke out against Weinstein. But once everyone saw that his final gambit to stay in power had failed (“I’m taking time off from filmmaking to defeat the evil NRA!”), everyone piled on. And those who might have continued to defend Weinstein—Tarantino, Damon, Affleck—found themselves playing save-ass, trying desperately not to get sucked down with him.

But what about the “Jew” angle? Is there anything specifically Jewish about Weinstein and his troubles? Mark Oppenheimer, editor-at-large of Tablet magazine, certainly thinks so. In a piece Richard Spencer described as being as good as anything from the Daily Stormer, Oppenheimer declared that Weinstein is an example of “specifically Jewy perviness.” His assertion is not that only Jews use their power and influence to sexually exploit or assault women. Clinton, Cosby, Savile, the Kennedys, and a thousand other examples prove that isn’t true. Rather, Oppenheimer’s claim is that Weinstein perved for specifically Jewy reasons—to dominate and humiliate shiksas as a way of getting back at the goys. Basically, Oppenheimer thinks Weinstein spent his entire adult life purposely reenacting a Streicher cartoon.

Needless to say, the op-ed was roundly denounced, and Oppenheimer soon apologized. But it nevertheless deserves to be asked: Was he correct? Well, yes and no. Weinstein was known to flap his wangdoodle at anything with two legs and breasts (and the leg part was negotiable), including Jewish women. However, because physical beauty is a requirement for being considered an ingenue in this town, Weinstein simply as a matter of course came into contact with a disproportionate number of gentile women (no hard feelings, Jewish girls; you’ll always have stand-up). That he pawed more shiksas than yentas doesn’t necessarily prove intent; he was playing the field, and the field is disproportionately shiksa.

Yet still, there is a Jewish element to the Weinstein story. Jews are, and this is news to no one, overrepresented among the ranks of Hollywood executives. I feel comfortable saying this because I see nothing wrong with it, just as I see nothing wrong with the fact that Asians (and males in general) are overrepresented in the STEM field (it’s funny how some of the anti-affirmative-action types on the far right suddenly discover a desire for “equal representation” when it comes to fields in which Jews excel). For a lot of Jewish men, the entertainment industry is their conduit to meeting beautiful non-Jewish women. Think about it; how else is a fat, nerdy Jew-boy from the coasts ever going to come into contact with hundreds of pristine shiksas from the Midwest and Europe? A yid like Harvey Weinstein was only able to get in the same room as someone like Kate Beckinsale because of her dreams of stardom and his ability to produce successful films. But the fact that a lot of Jewish men use Hollywood as a kind of dating service doesn’t necessarily make the situation predatory, because in the best-case scenarios—say, Kate Capshaw, an astonishingly mediocre actress who won the affections of Steven Spielberg—both parties profit.

Again I’ll say, I don’t necessarily see anything bad about this. But one must be tactful, something Weinstein wasn’t. Just listen to the NYPD wire recording of him pleading like a child to have some bimbo watch him shower. It’s humiliating; the guy’s a disgrace. This was a man with no skill, a man with no dignity. An obese, vulgar New Yawker who became a master landscaper in a Jewish-built Garden of Eden, only to blow it because he couldn’t stop violently shaking the trees in his insatiable lust for fruit.

The man was ham-fisted. And of all people, a Jew should know that isn’t kosher.
