Bryan Singer

Bryan Singer

These folks would point to the ongoing case against movie director Brian Singer, who, along with other “€œshowbiz titans,”€ is “€œaccused of participating in “€˜pedophile rings”€™ that groomed young boys for sexual consumption in the late 1990s. Allegedly, they promised the teens a leg up in the acting world and at times physically and psychologically intimidated them in order to get sex,”€ according to Slate.

(Sound familiar? In 2011, former child actor Corey Feldman declared that “€œpedophilia is Hollywood’s biggest problem.”€ He claimed he and his late, deeply troubled friend, fellow actor Corey Haim, had been passed around by a group of powerful entertainment industry types. Yet Feldman declined to name names, and the tale disappeared from the headlines.)

Brian Singer’s attorney says a thick paper trail proves he was shooting the first X-Men movie in Toronto when he was supposed to have been molesting boys in Hawaii. (As a Toronto resident, I can assure you that if that’s true, then cellphones all over the city contain snaps of Singer plus the cast and crew, taken by starstruck locals.)

As for the plaintiff’s lawyer, his clients include the guys who accused Sesame Street puppeteer Kevin Clash of sexual abuse”€”and those charges were “€œjust thrown out of court.”€

Oops.

Back in England, moral panickers thought they”€™d finally unearthed their “€œmissing link”€ when human remains were reportedly uncovered at a former children’s home in Jersey.

“€œChild’s body found at care home,”€ the BBC”€”itself the focus of child abuse accusations“€”trumpeted. The Guardian speculated that “€œhalf a dozen bodies”€ might still be buried on the site.

Tests were run on the “€œbone fragment.”€ A team of Oxford scientists found that it was, in fact, “€œa piece of wood or a coconut shell.”€ That “€œmissing link”€ wasn”€™t even a planted Piltdown Man, just a scrap of trash. Of course, you can almost hear the true believers muttering:

“€œThey would say that, wouldn”€™t they?”€
